There’s a flicker of light in every day

Though if you blink, it slips away

You’re left to fend in darkness alone

To ward off the nightmares, all on your own

You might ball your fists to fight your way out

And, with every punch, you could scream and shout

But no one will hear you; the darkness is thick,

And though you are brave, the nightmares are quick

They cut out your voice so you can’t even rasp

They suffocate, too, until each breath is a gasp

And there is no hope, once that flicker is gone

Everything you do turns entirely wrong

A single flicker of light, of hope, is now lost

And you pay the price, at the ultimate cost
